THE ULTIMATE
My best artwork is the one titled Behold, a floral foam sculpture I made depicting stage presence and the gusto you can only find on stage. I enjoyed this artwork because I was most skilled at subtractive sculpting and was best able to change its shape. If I could redo any artwork, I would redo the old mill to make it better detailed. I learned that I may want to buy floral foam for home to practice my sculpting skills and I learned about the many other ways to make art by constructing rather than building. If I could choose something to do in art class, I would lake to be able to make artworks in different art styles rather than themes for one unit.

Standard evidence- A native american artist that I really like is Steve Premo and his many different artworks symbolizing what it means to be a modern native american artist. He shows a lot of social justice paintings that show how the world is mistreating people like him. He also shows a difference between ancient native americans and modern Native Americans. My similar beliefs are that cultures should be introduced to people who do not know about them. My artwork is celebrating my own culture and family history. I wanted to reference to a family history that I want people to ask about and learn about. The artwork reflects a bit of family history that I am proud to share, a part of life that I am inspired by. Artist Statement
Artist statement: This artwork is showing a figure with one foot in front of the other holding a fist out in front of the other while its back hand is thrown back as if to say "behold!" There is a spotlight beam shining on the figure holding up the spotlight in mid air. The Inspiration for this artwork came from when I was watching the Lorax. The scene I was inspired by was the scene where Ted pulled off the curtain revealing a Truffula tree in a dream that he had. I thought that this pose would perfectly show the confidence you fan find on stage and the gusto and show that you can find in theater. The fron hand seems to be full of emotion and concentration while the second seems to tell the viewer "behold!" The tooling foil I used because I thought that it worked well for light. It moves and morphs in sunlight, and exposes floating particles. It is visible and bright, but can sometimes vanish from the right angle. I hope you enjoy "Behold!" Standards Evidence:
I created an artwork off of my inspiration. I learned a new way to express myself through art. I choose a meaningful spot to show my art. I choose the choir room to display my art. The intended audience are actors and singers who would understand the meaning of the art and better appreciate it. I did my best to make it appealing in all directions, however I did add tape to a spot that would not be pretty to look at. I also wanted to show movement in a way that people would want to look at all the angles of the artworks. I made the skull using the pinch-pot technique, and then sculpted the rest. I attached the nose and the hornes, and everything else is pinch pot. I then painted the arizona flag in glaze on the skull. To make the spoon holder I used the coil technique. To make the cup I used the slab technique. I will definitely try clay in a future project. This is my figure sculpture. I wanted to show confidence and stage presence in this artwork. It is made of floral foam. I used another block to test out how to use it. During the process the figure had fallen off, so I am using wire to reattach. Artist statement - My artwork depicts a forest with a trail going deep into the woods. I used paper and wire in this artwork. To make this artwork I made a slanted box out of cardboard and paper tape. I then used some wire to make the layers in the slanted box. The idea of my artwork is to make an artwork that someone can explore. I added things to find in the artwork for anyone that is looking. My goal for my artwork is to work with tunneling and collages. I think that this artwork. Target evidence - I seeked out feedback from my teacher and my fellow students. My teacher told me it would be a good idea to look into tunnel books and get inspiration from them. I found those helpful for spacing and shapes. I did not get much feedback from my classmates. The meaning of my artwork is to portray exploration by making an artwork you can explore, which I found challenging to come up with. I am also unfamiliar with tunnel books and that subject. When problems arose, like wires getting in the way, I problem solved to adapt the artwork into something better. When other problems did arise, like when glue stick glue did not work, I found the reason and worked around the problem by keeping the glue away from anything wet. I am making a relief sculpture similar to a tunnel book inspired by curiosity and my love of nature. I took inspiration from Anastassia Elias and her artworks made in paper tubes. While making this art, I was told that it would look better if I added things that came out of the canvas, and so when I get to the foreground I think that that would be a good idea. Mrs. Underhill said my art reminded her of and artist that made her art in cardboard tubes, using paper and spacing to create landscapes in the small cardboard. The artwork is changing as I decided more and more to have to viewer explore the artwork rather than view it. I did not want there to be something specific to look for, but for many things to discover. I wanted to add animals hidden into the art rather than make something that looks cool.
-Artist Statement- My artwork is of an ancient mayan temple carved into dried plaster. There is a river running near the temple. To create this artwork, I took dried plaster and carved into it with files and an exacto knife. I used the exacto knife to make the edges straightener, and to carve into the plaster boulders and a river. The inspiration behind my artwork is looking at the ancient Mayan temples in the rainforest and how massive they are. Some of the goals for my artwork was to experiment with plaster, as well as finish a media fair project. I have reached my goal because I can now say that I have used plaster for an artwork. The final piece turned out exactly how I had imagined. I can say that I will never use plaster for another artwork again. h-Target Evidence- Target A: I learned about interesting sculptures of the western world, but what caught my eye was not a western building, but a Mayan temple. My inspiration is from the pyramid of Cholula, the largest pyramid in the world. Though the egyptian pyramids get much attention, the Mayan temples are truly hidden treasures underrated. Never can egipt claim to have the largest pyramid in the world. Looking at artworks and photos of these ancient treasures, I found that most pyramids of the region have a cap on the top, as well as smaller and more numerous steps going up the side of the pyramid. The city of El Dorado; a mythic mayan city made purely of gold, was an interest of mine with the carving of this artwork. Target B: Similar to the first paragraph, My inspiration is from the pyramid of Cholula, the largest pyramid in the world. I was inspired by the print made by Lisamalini, and used this for a basic idea of what it should look like. Target C: I have learned that carving with plaster you can easily break or file off parts that you do not want, so you must always be vigilant. I also learned about the look and construction of mayan temples, and their stairways leading up to the top level. Target D: I have carved plaster for the first time, and have learned how to smooth both tall and flat surfaces. Target E: I researched how to shape out the sculpture before adding details. I learned this technique by watching what other wood carvers did when making their sculptures. Target F: I practiced how to smooth flat surfaces.

| From the plaster unit, I am making a mayan temple sculpture from the plaster. The first picture shows the progress so far and the second shows the drying plaster. If I were to use something again, I would use the exacto knife more often, however plaster is probably not going to be my next artwork. |
| This is my first attempt at the altered book media. I used ink and colored paper to make this, also using charcoal for the eyes. I was surprised how much cutting at actually took to carve into the book. As much as I was excited about carving into the book, I think that the most interesting part of theis art project is the paper sculpture I used for the main figure. I will probably not use ink again because of how it looks on certain materials and the mess that comes with it. I am excited to share this with you and will be sure to show you how it turns out. |
